Special performance steels: Properties and uses of stainless steel
Special performance steels are steels used to manufacture components and parts with special physical or chemical properties under special working conditions or under special conditions. There are many kinds of this steel, including stainless steel, acid resistant steel, heat resistant steel, wear resistant steel and so on. Let's talk about stainless steel in special performance steel to understand its performance and use.
Classification of stainless steel
According to the microstructure, it can be divided into martensitic steel, ferrite steel, austenitic steel, austenite-ferrite (duplex) stainless steel and precipitation hardening stainless steel.
According to the composition: chromium stainless steel, chromium nickel stainless steel and chromium manganese nitrogen stainless steel.
Physical and chemical properties
Ferritic stainless steel: corrosion resistance, toughness and weldability with the increase of chromium content and improve, chromium 12%-30%, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance are better, but the mechanical properties and process performance is poor, mostly used for the use of acid resistant structure and oxidation resistance steel with little force.
Austenitic stainless steel: good comprehensive performance, good shaping, toughness, weldability, corrosion resistance and weak magnetic.
Austenite-ferrite (biphasic) stainless steel: has the advantages of both ferrite and austenitic stainless steel, and has superplasticity.
Martensitic stainless steel: higher carbon content, with relatively strong strength, hardness and wear resistance, but poor corrosion resistance.
Use
Ferritic stainless steel: Used for nitric acid and food factory equipment or parts working at high temperature, etc
Austenitic stainless steel: Used to make acid-resistant equipment, food processing equipment, kitchen utensils, medical equipment and stainless steel watch accessories main material, etc.
Austenite-ferrite (DUPLEX) STAINLESS steel: used to make acid-resistant equipment, stainless steel watch jewelry main material, etc.
Martensitic stainless steel: used for parts with high mechanical properties and general corrosion resistance requirements, such as springs, hydraulic press valves, etc.
Which type of stainless steel to choose depends on the application and your needs.
