Definitions

Niobium, titanium and/or vanadium alloyed steels are termed microalloyed (LA). Through these alloy elements a higher strength at relatively good cold working is achieved.

Microalloyed fine grained steels (MC) show a fine structural condition, that is achieved by deposition (mostly carbide and/or nitride) in combination with temperature-controlled final rolling (thermo-mechanic rolling).

Bake-hardening is defined as artificial ageing of the material based on the heat treatment of the formed component during the paint process.

Since in the ferrite structure of this type of steel no carbon or nitrogen is dissolved it is internationally referred to as “interstitial-free steel“ (IF steel). High strength IF steels have very low contents of carbon and are stabilized by the addition of titanium and/or niobium. As a consequence, these steels show nearly unlimited suitability for storage. The higher strength is achieved by solid solution hardening with adding manganese, phosphorus and/or silicon. A higher work-hardening, no pronounced yield strength, high elongations and high r-values result in an excellent formability.The high-strength IF-steel is suitable in particular for deepdrawn parts; due to its low ratio Re/Rm (min. yield strength/tensile strength) und the high r- and n-values (anisotropy and strain hardening coefficient).
